The second round of Genius Hour has so far been really fun. What's new is that we have partners to help us if we need it and look over what we're doing, if you want they can even work with your partner on your project. My partner and I are working together and we're making jewelry and clothes to sell to see if we can make more of a profit by selling them than making them. We are donating 40% of our profits to the ASPCA foundation for the animals. I like the new Genius Hour because I never thought I'd want to work with a partner until I did.
I liked it and disliked it. I liked it because it was a break from doing normal writing and it’s something different. I disliked it because I would’ve liked a little (or a lot) more time to do it, because I kind of had to rush. When I first heard of it I was like “oh, great another project that’s boring and not fun,” but after a couple weeks of doing it I changed my mind in the end it ended up being lots of fun sharing your passion with other people. At the beginning I had absolutely no idea what my passion was at first but I was thinking and I love manatees they’re kind of like my passion and that’s when the whole thing went together. I actually really liked it after all even though I thought I wouldn’t.
Getting My New Puppy
By: Gianna Thayer My friend and I just came inside from the trampoline and plopped down on the couch, then my dad walks in. “Come on.” He says. My dog, Sandy comes. “Not you.” He told Sandy. A little black, puppy runs in… My friend, Kelsey and I race to her. I’ve seen the puppy before, I just didn’t think we we’re going to get her. My uncles dogs had puppies (a golden retriever mixed with a rottweiler) she looks like a black golden retriever. “What’s her name?” I ask. “She doesn’t have one,” he replied. Kelsey and I are really excited for the new puppy. I had a couple names in my head. We all went over to Chloe’s house because we wanted her puppy to meet our new puppy. They instantly became best puppy friends. Chloe, Kelsey and I were thinking of names for her. “Ninja?” My dad asked us. “Maybe,” I answered. My dad pulled out his phone and looked up good names for black dogs. “Jet?” My dad asked. “No, I don’t like that at all,” I said. “Harley?” Someone asked. “I like it,” Chloe, Kelsey and I agreed. Minutes after we went over to Chloe’s house my mom pulled up our driveway....she didn’t know my dad brought home a puppy. I saw her face as she passed Chloe’s driveway then to our driveway....shocked. It looked like her jaw dropped down to the floor. We tried to hide the puppy, but it didn’t work. She ran out of car over to Chloe’s house. Luckily she said she wasn’t mad. She loved the puppy. She told us that, she just wished my dad would’ve told her he was bringing home another dog. When we were all coming up with dog names our new puppy ran into the street when a car was coming! I was terrified she was going to get hit, she’s a puppy she didn’t know any better. We were very lucky the driver was nice enough to slow down, my dad went in the street and picked up the puppy and brought her back to Chloe’s yard. All the weight off my shoulders felt good, I was so relieved she was okay. After going back and forth with dog names we decided either Stormy, Ninja or Harley. “Go ask your brother which one he likes,” My dad demanded. “Okay!” I yell running to my house. I run home go inside and run into the basement. “It’s between three names for the new puppy,” I told my brother, Kameron and his friend. “I like Stormy,” he said. I was hoping he’d say Ninja but Stormy works too. I run back to Chloe’s house like a cheetah chasing it’s prey. “He likes Stormy.” I say. “Okay her new name is Stormy!” My dad said excitedly. We all yell, “Yeah, Stormy!” Stormy rolls down a small hill onto Chloe’s driveway. “Don’t do that.” My mom says to Stormy. “You’ll hurt yourself.” She finished. Stormy runs back to play with Chloe’s puppy. We played with Stormy for a long time, we carry her in a blanket, and bring her toys. It was one crazy day, but we made it work. I will never forget the day we got Stormy. It will live in my memories forever. In the state of Idaho, there is a law that states "In Natoma, it is illegal to throw a knife at some one wearing a striped shirt". Who would make this kind of law? Why a striped shirt, what about a plaid shirt? How about just don't throw knifes at all.
If the law were still enforced today either everyone would wear a striped shirt or complaining that they have to wear a shirt and not a different type of shirt. When I was about four years old I was in Florida, my family and I we're staying on Crystal River (home of the West Indian Manatees) my dad decided that him and I we're going to swim with the manatees. I never really knew about the manatees before I swam with them, after that experience I knew what they looked like and where they lived, I instantly fell in love with them. A little bit after I got in the water I was convinced I felt one on my foot. My mom and brother said that it wasn't but, I knew it was. When I got out of the water and went into the gift shop I was aloud to pick out one thing, I picked a manatee wearing a inner tube that said Florida. I love manatees but sadly they're endangered, I hope that one day we don't have to worry about them going extinct. Please help the gentle giant, the sea cow, the manatee they need our help and we can give them what they need. Save the Manatees!
