Today in genius hour, I reaseached how to take a better picture and the things you need to do to make it better. I learned that you need to get in close. This means that you need to fill in the frame with my subject and not to have much open space filled in with your picture. I learned that you have to shoot (take pictures) everyday or everytime that you have free time. It doesn't matter what you take pictures of, all that matters is that you are practicing taking pictures, and that you are learning the different angles that you can take a picture of, and also seeing the different kinds of light. Speaking of light, you need to see the light. This means that you have to see where the light is coming from. Next week I am hoping on learning whether filters are a good add on to your picture and how it affects the picture. On Tuesday I am excited to see what the 8th graders have put together at Jefferson and I am super happy that we get to see them and what they have made. I am also really super excited about having our own genius day! Me and my classmates have been dicussing this for a while and I am curious to see how it goes! :)

For round 3 of genius hour, my topic is photography. I am researching for the best camera to buy and which brand works the best. My favorite thing to take pictures of is landscape. My mom and my dad inspired me to get into photography. I am also getting ready to possibly go to the genius hour fair; looking and stands to prop up my pictures, printing my pictures, (etc.). I am hoping that my parents will agree to letting me have my own camera because they can be lots of money! I am super excited to take pictures and see what peopke think of them. :)
BULLYING
By Emmy Dolin Bullying is a huge cause that can have a big impact on so many people’s lives. It is horrible. People kill/hurt themselves because they get bullied so much. The cause of bullying happens when someone doesn’t feel good about themselves, so they put other people down to make them feel better about themselves. There are a few types of bullying. Mental, physical, and verbal bullying.. I believe that if you care enough to end bullying, you CAN make a change in someone’s life. The first type of bullying is mental. A boy named Alex Libby gets mentally bullied regularly. He gets bullied at school and most people there are bystanders. A bystander is someone who knows someone else is getting bullied, but does nothing to try and help, or to make it stop. Bullying affects many people’s lives mentally. When some people get bullied, they feel the need to hurt themselves or even commit suicide, because they believe the bully when they say, “you are ugly, stupid, you are worthless, (etc.), even though it is not true. The victim feels horrible and they feel that they are not welcome to the world and that they don’t belong in the world. That being said, I am willing to make a change to stop bullying by telling a lot of people who I know that they should try to stop bullying too. Iam going to tell lots of people how it can affect your body and your life. When someone is getting bullied, you should,t be that person who decides to think that it is funny, start laughing, start to whisper about it, because that alone, is bullying! More people need to start standing up for the victim, and tell the bully that it has gone too far. ‘Stand for the silent.’ ~ Quote by Alex Libby. Next, a form of bullying is physical bullying. This type of bullying happens to many people and they always get injured because of it. Physical bullying is when someone bullies you with their hands, feet (etc.). For example, Alex Libby tells interviewers how he regularly gets punched and strangled. People at Alex Libby’s school were bystanders. Overall, I believe that being a bystander is also a form of bullying because you are not telling anyone what is happening! Physical bullying can cause you to get cuts, bruises, and many more injuries. People even think that it is their fault for getting bullied that they want to kill themselves. People bully others to make them feel better about themselves. I say that everyone should feel wonderful about who they are and/or what they act and look like. Finally, one more way to bully is verbally. Alex Libby gets bullied verbally, too. People at his school called him “fishface” based on the way he looked to others. People would make fun of him because they heard rumors about him that were untrue. People would laugh at him because he acted a certain way. A lot of people were bystanders. This makes me feel really bad for the victim, and makes me want to make a change. Alex’s mom says, “ I think that is it so ridiculous that these kids act this way to their classmates!” I agree. That being said, if you are getting bullied or even if someone is getting bullied, tell someone! A parent, teacher, relative, someone. I feel so strong about bullying that I am going to be making a change with some of my friends. Bullying is happening all around the world and many people get hurt, and affected in many different ways because of it. Of course no one likes bullying because it is sad, heartbreaking, and depressing. If you see someone getting bullied, don’t be a bystander. People are bystanders because they feel like if they stand up for the victim, they will be the next target. I feel so passionate about bullying that for my Bat Mitzvah project, I will be making a change, donating money and creating a foundation to help it stop. It would be nice if the world was a bully - free zone, wouldn’t it? For genius hour round 3, my topic will be changing to photography. I have been taking practice pictures on my phone, and on my dad's new camera. I am planning to save up to buy my own camera to take pictures with that so I won't have to borrow my dad's all the time, OR use my phone. I want my own camera because I want to take pro pictures and edit them. I can't wait to see what the future holds for my skills in photograhpy, and I can't wait to learn more about it.
Today I researched for genius hour on how to make fondant people and other things like that. I am pretty good at making fondant flowers and cute tiny animals but I want to be able to make more than just that, so I contacted Buddy, from the TLC show, Cake Boss. I am super excited to see what he has to say (if he ends up writing back) about different tips on how to make people and creatures out of fondant. I can't wait to see what things he knows. I also asked him how to be a better baker as you get older so again, I am super excited to see what he says. In the beginning of genius hour I was a bit shy because I needed to get in the hang of things and I needed to step out of my comfort zone. I am happy with where I am right now and I am hoping to expand on learning on baking tips and tricks! ;)
My topic for genius hour is baking. I like that I get to research different things on how to make lots of baking things. I also like that I got to change my topic from round 1, so I can learn different things about my hobbies. I have a lot of time to research and I can even do some research at home too! I think that my project is going to be a big success. I am researching on how to make easy and homemade saltwater taffy. I have all of the ingredients and I can't wait to make taffy. It will be so much fun! I love to bake and I like having time at school to research what I enjoy doing in my free time. I can't wait to have fun with my hobby and show everyone what my abilities are.
