Today in Genius Hour we finished videotaping and editing the interview video with Chris and Mike. We had some trouble posting the video though so we decided to give the IPad that we filmed on to the librarian to post it for us. Once we post the video we are going to research experiments at home so we can hopefully post an experiment during the next Genius hour. The video that we are trying to post was a fun video to make and it's enjoyable to watch. My success was finishing the video. One failure that we experienced today was the difficulty of being able to post the video which made me a little frustrated because in the past it was easy to post a video to YouTube. We might be able to only post one more video before it's the end of Genius Hour. This was a very fun video to make and it's enjoyable to watch. Be aware for one more video before the end of Genius Hour.
Today in Genius Hour we finally finished filming the interview even though we were without Mike. Since we were without Mike we only interviewed Chris. One of our failures was that I couldn't edit the music for the video. So I just had to delete the clip. The video also had a lot of success though. We finished filming. We officially added Chris into the Group. Also, we were able to make the video a decent amount of minutes. The video is just the right amount of time so that it is interesting and still fun to watch. Something that we will focus on doing next week is actually filming a experiment. We hope to finish filming too. Once we upload we might be done with filming experiments. That is what we did today (5/6/16) during Genius Hour.
This round in genius hour we were able to film three experiments. Our process was first research the experiments. Then the day before genius hour we would pack up the materials for the experiment. Then the day of genius hour we would film and most of the time we posted the video that same day. Unfortunately, we were only able to upload one video. The one video was a collaboration with DiyGeniusTime7. The experiment was making a dish soap snake bottle.
The end product was not a fail and it was very successful. On the other hand, the other two experiments were successful except the IPad we filmed on would not let us post. We do not know the reason why it wouldn't let us post. I think it might be because their was so much space filled. That was the only major problem we faced this round. Something I would consider doing differently is probably not waste any time of filming and then not be able to post because that wastes a week of genius hour. Not wasting time is very crucial because we only have four more weeks left until it is the end of genius hour. Plus genius hour is only a hour each day. In the next round of Genius Hour we are going to introduce Chris and Mike the new members of the Ultimate Science Crew. Also I didn't need or get any outside or inside school community help. I am probably going to ask for more outside community help from my parents on bringing the right materials. That is what I did in Round Three. I am excited and I can't wait for round four. We did not get anything done today. We have filmed two experiments in the past two weeks and we have had an issue with posting them. Even though we got nothing done we still learned that we should not include skits and sketches and only focus on the experiment itself. So this week was a learning experience that we should not have skits. I guess you could say that we failed, but Connor, Nick, Christopher, and I have thought of this week as a step forward. We also have figured out that we might collaborate with another group named diyGeniusTime7 for one or two videos. I look forward to collaborating because we have a creative experiment that we are going to do. So definitely look forward for some awesome experiments in the next couple of weeks.

The other one will be finished and posted next Monday. Chase isn't in the Ultimate Science Crew he was just blogging about us which I thought was pretty cool. We made the Snow Experiment by mixing water and sodium polyacrylate. The other experiment included eggs, vinegar, and water. If you combine those items you will make a rubbery and bouncy egg. Our channel's name is Goodrich IPad. We also created a skit for the Fake Snow Experiment. It's pretty funny. I really enjoy making these experiments and I hope you do too!
Here is the link to our channel. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=goodrich+ipad Today in Genius Hour Nick, Connor, Chis, and I started our experiment or video. Connor and Nick made jokes about eggs which is the topic of our next experiment, that we will do next Friday. The video included a lot of funny jokes. Even though we are not finished we will continue to do more jokes next week and possibly be able to film the experiment too. The experiment is "Egg in White Vinegar" The vinegar will make the egg bouncing and if you put it under light it will glow. I look forward to next week because it will definitely be a fun and entertaining video. The link is the video that we started.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6QBtFXzCHF-ZUp1cHgtZTZFekE My name is Max and my Genius Hour project was to record or videotape Connor, and Nick while they made science experiments. If you don’t know what Genius Hour is it is a time where us sixth graders get to work on our passions. If you don’t have Genius Hour at your school I recommend doing it because it is really, really fun. We chose this project because Nick and Connor wanted to make science experiments and I wanted to do something that involved cameras, like taking pictures, or I wanted to make mini movies that were five minutes long. When Connor, Nick and I came up with the idea of me filming them while they made science experiments I automatically knew that, that was what I wanted to do. I was super excited to start right away because I knew we were going to succeed. Then, Ultimate Science was born.
The steps to get where we are now involved a lot of researching. We went over to the whiteboard table and researched a couple of experiments like Bending Water, The Unbreakable Egg, The Flipping Cup Experiment, and our most popular one, The Homemade Lava Lamp. I posted a bloopers film, then they did The Stabbing Water Experiment, the Borax Goo, and our most recent one, the Quicksand Experiment. After we researched about those experiments we decided who was bringing what the day before we did an experiment. Then in genius hour we would do the experiment. I got a lot of outside support from my mom. She let me bring the materials we needed for the experiments and she also gave me tips of what to do with filming. Connor and Nick were the only inside support that I got. Then everything else we did on our own. The ending product was very successful. We ended up making 8 Ultimate Science videos and all of them had more than 20 views! I uploaded the videos to YouTube. We chose YouTube over making a website because a YouTube channel is easier and more people would be able to see it. We also had a lot of success. Like I said before, we had 8 Ultimate Science videos and all of them had more than 20 views. But 2 out of the 8 experiments failed. The Unbreakable Egg failed and our most recent one the Quicksand Experiment. We know why they failed too. Nick crushed the Egg and while we were making the Quicksand we added way too much water and not enough corn starch. If we were to redo those experiments we would not push as hard on the egg and we would use less water to make the quicksand other than that we wouldn’t change anything. Something we are thinking about doing during the next round of Genius Hour is include some slow motion into the videos and we might add some skits. We know for sure that we are going to keep doing Ultimate Science until we can’t find anymore experiments. We might also collaborate with other kids in sixth grade. That was my Genius Hour project. I am super excited to use Weebly for the first time and see what my classmates have to say about their Genius Hour. I only got to see a few of my classmates Genius Hours so I'm excited to hear about the rest of them. It feels weird to know that other people outside of our school are going to see our blogs because last year in fifth grade we had a blog but only the class and the teacher could read them. I have a feeling I am going to use Weebly a lot to blog about sixth grade. I am really excited to start using Weebly.
