Today in genius hour I kept researching different places to donate to my charity for the silent auction and a raffle. As I found a place I thought would be willing to donate and that would have something good to donate that would raise money. I took pictures as I did this for my success criteria.
My genius hour project was continuing my charity project. I chose this because I felt there was a lot to still do before My charity could as successful as possible. My inspiration to choose it in the beginning was when I watched a movie called Season of a Lifetime. My first step was finalizing my website. Then I had to think of ways to make money for charity. I come up with a silent auction. After that I started researching how to have a successful silent auction. Now I took what I learned from the websites and talked to my aunt. She told me to I would need a formal letter to get donations from businesses. My next step was to make the letter. After that I started finding businesses in my area to get donations from. I then walked into the businesses and handed them what they needed to give me a donation. At this point I started receiving donations. Now that I was getting donations I need a place to hold the event, so I found one. Lastly, I made an event flyer. I am still getting donations. I used my teacher to help while I was in school working on my project. While I was out of school I seeked help from my mom, my aunt, and a family friend. The end product, well there won't be one really. I will just keep getting money for my charity and using the money to help people with ALS. I shared with the world by using my website and handing out my event flyer. Some success I had was making money and getting donations. Some problems I faced were writing the formal letter and finding a place for the silent auction to be held. I can learn what worked and use the same letter and place for my next event. I wouldn't do anything different next time because everything went smoothly. I am going to continue with my charity project next round because there is a couple things I need to still do.
Today I sent two emails!! One email was about getting a donation for my silent auction. The other email was about getting the word out about my charity. Next week I plan on getting the word out about my charity and figuring out where to have my silent auction. Also I might communicate with more businesses about getting donations.
Please visit my website and donate at sukelcon000.wix.com/fundraisinghttp://sukelcon000.wix.com/fundraising I continued my research from last week on how to make sure I have a successful silent auction. I searched many different ideas such as silent auction basket ideas, what do I need for I silent auction, and how to advertise my fundraiser. This helped me break down my silent auction into sections. This way I can prepare for one thing at a time. I used the following links to help me http://www.thefundraisingauthority.com/fundraising-events/silent-auction/ http://www.gossra.org/Content/auction_silent_2016.pdf and http://razoofoundation.org/2012/07/22-ways-to-promote-your-fundraising-event/.
I researched stores and businesses that could possible donating items to my charity (sALSa). To do this I used https://mail.google.com/mail/ca/u/0/#sent/152fa76e74cc08ec ww.hhgregg.com projersey.com. If these places donate items they will be in my first major fundraiser that will be a silent auction. Next time I will be doing the same thing and also researching more on how to prepare and start preparing for the silent auction.
My genius hour project was to make an ALS charity. I chose to do this because I wanted to do something that would affect more people than just myself. Also, I chose this because I wanted to help other people that are not as fortunate as others.
There was a lot of steps I had to take some were easy others were not. My first step was to research everything I could about ALS to help me later in my project. Secondly, I had to find a place where I could easily make a website without any cost. After, I found that place I had to find a template I liked. Then, I had to make the website. After making the website and making sure everything was the way I wanted I had to publish my website the public. Now, I am trying to figure out different ways that I could make money. For support I looked to my teacher Ms. Watz and Mrs. Sayer inside my school community. Outside of school I seeked support from my mom. The end product will end with me making money through fundraiser and donating it to hospitals to do research for a cure. Also I will give money to people money with ALS to make their lives easier. I shared with the world by publishing my website this blog, and by fundraising. Things that were successful for me was that I built a website and shared it with the public. I successfully got great ideas for fundraising. But there is success yet to come with actually making the money and distributing it. Some problems I faced along the way was trying to figure out a good name for my charity that wasn’t already taken. Another problem I had was that I wasn't quite sure how to make a website. Lastly I am currently facing the problem of how to raise money to get my charity off and running. I really liked how my project went and I wouldn’t do anything drastically different next time. Some minor things I would do different would be to do a little more research and ask more people within and outside of my community about their thoughts and the idea and get some more ideas for fundraising. I’m thinking about doing a sports website next time. The website will have updates on the worldwide sports games, drills to get better, and my opinion on hot sports topics. To see my ALS charity website click the link below. http://sukelcon000.wix.com/fundraising I'm excited to blog my genius hour project. I'm excited because I will get to share what I learn with the world. Also, the world will get to see what I have have to offer. I have many great ideas and this way I can share my ideas and what I learn with everyone.
