Today during genius hour I made a tutorial of making a bookmark and saving it to my drive so I can make my Imovies at home. I am going to do one big Imovie of all the things I made and this is what I will be presenting in two weeks to everyone. I failed by ripping the paper while I was making my video to post on Youtube. My success was that on my second try I finished the video and was able to save everything into my drive to be prepared to make my Imovie. So today, was mostly a success with a pinch of a fail!
Today, during Genius Hour I started to create my Imovie. It wasn't exactly a success today, but it wasn't EXACTLY a fail either! It was kind of both. But anyways, I only have one week left, and I could not finish my movie today! So I decided I would take it home and do it on my Ipad instead so I have something to present to others. I started to take more pictures for my success criteria so I can make at least two videos this round to present. I took pictures of how to make a homemade bookmark that won't crumble. I only have pictures of the materials. And I will post down below my cover picture for my Youtube Channel! Since I was working in a group before this and we had already made an Youtube channel so we decided we would share the channel and just post our own videos by ourselves whenever we want to! One video will be about ideas to think about or try to make by yourself and the other one will be a tutorial for making an homemade bookmark that won't crumble and a notebook that's ordinary and will become extraordinary! Here is some pictures down below!
Today, in Genius Hour, I continued my project except that I helped Kyra with her movie. I helped her for 15 minutes and then continued on. A friend told me to do something cool to her notebook, so I said, "Sure, but can I get 25 cents afterwards?" she agreed! So this is how my Genius hour today benefited me. Plus, I am almost done with my Genius Hour! I had spent most of my time on the notebook, but I also did the movie with Kyra too! It was so fun! I also made my bland old phone case into an awesome one! My failures were that I had to finish one notebook because of the lack of time so there are some lines and streaks in it. But on the other hand, most of it was a success!
For Genius Hour Round three Day 1 I am doing DIY decorative things. I made videos and I am going to sell these things and donate the money to my church. Today, I took a bland old journal and made it into something extraordinary! I taped designed washy tape and wrapped it around the journal and added some stickers to it. To me, it was precise. I had so much fun doing it! It will benefit me by helping out my church and other people! It will benefit my church (other people) by getting some more money for expanding the church! I am going to make an Imovie of this specific DIY journal and post it on Youtube for a reference for other people!
In Genius Hour, we are doing Resourceful DIY Projects. I chose this project because I had interest in it and it could benefit me in a lot of ways. It could benefit me by keeping some of my projects and my topic is RESOURCEFUL DIY Projects, so it can be resourceful for me and other people! My steps were to find something to do each week, make a schedule, and get all the supplies we needed to make it, and think WHERE we can video tape it. Plus, we had to get a video camera on an Ipad and camera on an Ipad also. It was pretty hard to find all the supplies I needed and to find what we are going to do for ALL of the nine weeks of Genius Hour. The support I got inside the school community was some from of my peers and outside of school I got some help from my sister, she helped me find all the materials I needed to make the project we were doing. Inside of school I mistook flour for cornstarch and someone had one in handy so I asked them for some and they lent it to me. I am still working on this to share with the world, but posting a video on Youtube (I still have to post it on Youtube). It won't post on Youtube so I have to find a way to make the photo-video again and post it on Youtube. It won't upload from my drive and go on Youtube, it only allows to do it on the Youtube camera, not Google Drive. The successes I got from the process was I got to keep some of the things we made, like Stress Slime. Instead of a stress BALL it was slime! Plus, next time my whole group will get to keep the things we make instead of taking like, an inch of it. Problems I faced was that we couldn't make a WHOLE video because we had so much talking in the background of our videos that you couldn't even hear me or the people who worked with me talking! So next time I will try to find a quiet environment to take videos. And we will try to talk a little louder because we had some difficulty with that, we might not even do videos next time but, we are not sure. Next time what I will do differently will be to take picture videos instead of videos if we cannot find a quiet environment. And we will make sure that we can make the videos HD instead of the blurry kind and not that shaky. Plus maybe finding better music and features to add to our picture-video. The next round I am going to do some of the things I did this round over so I can make picture-videos of it and make some new DIY things, such as DIY Journals and things in that category. Today during Genius Hour, me, Simrat, and Manpreet made Play-Doh out of Corn-Starch and toothpaste! It was sort of a fail, but it turned out messy and a little well? Anyways, we just mixed Corn-starch and toothpaste together and it turned out to be a bit of a Play-doh consistency, but not a lot. I put corn starch in my hands and the toothpaste since we had a SUCH a SMALL bowl. It is better to do this outside rather than inside, if you want to get your house or wherever you are messy. I rubbed it with my hands together and it was much better than mixing it in a, rather small, bowl. It was a fail/success today during Genius Hour!
Today, during Genius Hour, me, Simrat, and Manpreet created a DIY Dreamcatcher. We wanted all of the things to be from home and not bought from the store. We used a bangle as the base, string as the inside design, and some more string to hang the feathers (Which are from a pillow)! It was very hard to make a specific design in one hour, so we just did a random design that was not so great, but turned out good. We also made videos along the way that we might as well post on Youtube. I am not going to post it on here yet because it still needs some edits to be perfected. But I will post a picture of how the DIY Dreamcatcher turned out!! We had some help from our friend, Kashmala, to make the video while we were making the Dreamcatcher! Overall today, our Genius Hour Project turned out really well!!
Today, during Genius Hour, Saule and I made a DIY Galaxy Jar. A DIY Galaxy Jar is a Jar which contains cotton balls, water, glitter, and food dye. Unlike our previous DIY Projects, the DIY Galaxy Jar was a success! And we finished just in time. We ran out of cotton balls so now we have to make the rest of the Galaxy Jar at home, or next time during Genius Hour. We also had to borrow some food dye from some people around our classroom because none of us had any food dye at home nor did we have time to buy it at the store. We showed our learning today by taking pictures and making videos and at least TRYING to post it on Youtube.
Today my Genius Hour was a total FAIL! We were making slime today while making a video. Both the slime and the video were a fail. Last week our slime was great, even though we thought it was going to be an epic fail. Since the past two weeks we were trying to make a video but the background was so loud! That was the same problem this week, but the slime was too hard. We are learning from our mistakes and will find a quiet place to do the video and try not to put a lot of Borax into the slime. We learn from our mistakes!!
My Genius hour project was a huge success! My project was photography!!! I chose photography because my sister and my dad are both interested in it and I wanted to have something in common with them! And because I had interest in it. Many steps were involved in this project, from taking pictures to making a website. I had to make sure the pictures weren’t blurred, edit the pictures with an app, called Color Pop, which makes a picture black and white and lets you color the pictures. I grouped with Kashmala and Saule. We put our minds together and made a plan to make a website, post pictures, and make it a reference for other people.
This is our website: http://ahmadkas000.wix.com/photo-flower#!history-of-photography/zoom/c1dmp/yn0k I didn’t do Genius Hour with my partners for 2 whole weeks! I had to go to vacation overseas. But that still did not stop me from doing my project! I took pictures of the sunrise on the plane and pictures of the fields and buffalos! Finally on the last day of genius hour, we set up our website and published our website. We took support from outside of the school community and inside! We shared our project with the world by publishing a website on Wix.com and making it public. One success of our project was that we learned how to work together even if we had some rough times in between, such as getting into little bitty arguments and not agreeing on some things! I think one thing I would do differently next time is to take less time on the non-important things and focus on the important things, and if I am working with another group, to focus on my project more. I am certainly doing something that involves photography in my next round which will be not as hard as this time since I know the process now! |
