Today in Genius Hour, I made DIY paper roses. It took a long time to make them, I made three. In the end I tied them into a bouquet! They turned out really great though, I had to hot glue them because they kept falling off of the sticks. Here are the pictures:
My Genius Hour project was DIY projects and I did it with my two friends. We chose this project because we thought it would be fun to make cool things, such as a galaxy jar, with materials you can find at home. Our steps from beginning to end were first we'd research and then after the research we created a google doc with our schedule for the entire quarter and then in the end we'd make a video of one of our projects and perhaps post it on YouTube (we haven't got to the posting on YouTube part yet).
The video turned out great after we edited it and added some effects. We got support from our parents and art teacher. Our parents bought us a mason jars so we could make the galaxy jar and our art teacher helped us in one part where we needed a container but we forgot to bring one to school (we were making glittery slime at the time). The end product was to make a video of one of our projects and edit and add special effects to it, as I said before, and to post it on YouTube. Our successes were that most of our projects turned out really great but the problems we faced were that we ran out of supplies for a few of our projects so that lead to bad results and we learned that next time we should be more prepared and get a heads up on what we're going to make and that's also what we'll do differently next time. For the next round of Genius Hour we will probably do DIY projects again because we had a really fun time with it so we'd love to do it again. For Genius Hour, today, I made Play Doh. I used Corn Starch and Toothpaste to make it, also I used a container and a spoon to mix the ingredients together. Unfortunately, by accident, the Corn Starch ended up as flour. Since I'm doing Genius Hour with a group, my friend brought the "Corn Starch" that ended up as flour and that ruined the Play Doh in the making. Then, one of our classmates let us use her Corn Starch because she (luckily) had some in a container. In the end we made Play Doh but very less, although I had fun, we didn't get to finish. I guess you could call it an epic fail, though it was fun. My Success Criteria was making a video and taking a picture; here there are below, enjoy! Today, for Genius Hour, I made a mini dream catcher. I used strings, beads, a bangle, tape, feathers, and scissors. It was hard tying the string on the bangle to make the dream catcher, so that took some time, but I managed. For my success criteria, I took pictures. I didn't finish the dream catcher, due to running out of time.
In Genius Hour, today, I made a Galaxy Jar. I used cotton balls, glitter, food dye, a mason jar, and some water. It was quite easy but it had its ups and downs and I'm glad to say that it came out a success. My success criteria for today was drawing pictures of my process. I also made a YouTube channel with my friends.
Here's a link to our channel: HubbaHubbaDIY: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3WT9EMb3xk For the 2nd round, my project is DIY and for my success criteria today I made a list of the steps I'm doing for my project today which is how to make glittery slime. It turned out really well in the end and I feel that it turned out a success.
My Genius Hour project is art and why I chose this project is because I’m pretty good at sketching and I wanted to go further with this talent. At first I wasn’t so sure because there were so many ideas in my head of what to do my project on but then I thought I should just focus on this one skill for now and since it’s my passion I should express it. Also, I wanted to inspire other people to follow their passion and if you’re good at something, I think you should go further with it and go for it just like I’m doing in this project.
The steps I’m using: First off, I’ll go shop for supplies and ask people who know stuff about art so they can help me on my project. After that, I’ll look for resources that’ll give me ideas for my sketches or any other type of art style. Then, I will use those ideas for my drawings and to do something other than just sketching (such as paintings, crafts, etc.) Finally, I’m going to go deeper into my project to show to the world and I will start a blog and write about my journey in Genius Hour and do a gallery for my sketches. So, those are my steps for round one! I have gotten support from the art teacher in my school and she supplied me with poster paper, watercolor paints, painting sponge, and paintbrushes. The end product was to share my art with world and I did that with a blog in which I have put my sketches, paintings, and crafts in the gallery. It’ll provide the facts of why I’m doing this and how it’s going to make a difference. The successes of the process was that I found really great resources that provided information on what to in order to make your art be more appealing, such as, drawing a little lightly so it would look a little more professional and realistic. If you draw dark, it’ll make your sketch look not so great. The problems I faced were that I couldn’t find that many supplies as I was hoping for and it kind of ruined an idea I was thinking of. The thing’s I’d do differently next time are that I’ll think twice about what I’m doing so I won’t make a mistake and turn my project off task. Also I will try to do something more big than just blogging and doing art. What I’m doing for the next round of Genius Hour will probably be selling some art pieces to others on my blog or in real life and making it a little better with final touches so it’ll look more appealing to others. I’ll ask others to help me find people who are interested in buying art. Below is a link to my blog: http://artforfun.my-free.website/ Hello, I'm a 6th grader at Goodrich Elementary and I'm going to be telling you about my project idea for Genius Hour. My topic for Genius Hour is art and I will be doing multiple types of art such as sketching, painting, and maybe even a little sculpture craft. I'm very excited to have my own blog filled with my own ideas and I hope you all like my posts!
