The Demon
I don’t think I’ve ever been this scared. Seeing as my stomach was in my throat and my hands wouldn’t stop shaking I realized I wasn’t scared;I was terrified. I wasn’t the type of person who liked to let emotion show. Especially in front of my sister and her “Not so but still is boyfriend” Caleb.
Which made it even worse as they were currently trying not seem to annoyed.
My older sister Ariyana gave me an annoyed look. “Are you actually gonna get on this one Arielle,or are you gonna chicken out like you did on the ‘Batman’?”
“Are you going to say something smart or annoy me like you did getting to the ‘Batman’?” I retorted. I could see from the look on her face she was wondering if strangling me would cause too much of a commotion. Caleb oblivious to her facial expression pushed us up in the line. I looked up at the sign that hung from above our heads. The sign read the Demon. We were about four rides away from it being our turn. We headed up towards the silver gates that kept the rider back from the track. My heart sped up in my chest. It thumped so loud in my ears I thought they could hear it. My stomach felt queasy and I thought I was going to throw up all over my sister’s new Adidas.
“Elijah said the ride was definitely worth the wait,” Added Caleb “I just wish he would have mentioned how long the wait would be.”
I grunted in agreement. “Oh stop your whining.” Ariyana snapped. She heard the harshness in her own voice and quickly softened it up. “Look we got next ride anyway.” She pointed to the black flamed cart that came to a screeching stop.
Stiffly I walked over to the cart. I thought my heart would jump out of my chest with how fast it was beating. Ariyana put her hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see her smiling. Her long brown hair swayed with the wind. I was jealous, my black short hair that just passed my chin didn’t move. But neither did Caleb’s unusually curly hair.
Ariyana sat down in the cart and beckoned me to follow. I did,but it was like I was watching myself move in a daze. I sat down in the cart beside Ariyana,Caleb sat in the seat ahead of us. Caleb turned from the seat in front of us and smiled. “You ready?” The question was pointed towards me but Ariyana answered, “She’s fine. Plus I’m right here nothings going to happen.
I silently prayed that she was right. Caleb looked as if he had something else to say but thought better of it. Without another word he turned around in his seat just as the cart lurched forward. Ariyana grabbed my hand and squeeze it. I was about to tell her I didn’t want or need her pity when the cart sped down the tracks.
I shut my eyes tight and let out a scream that hurt my own ears. The cart lurched and turned and kept picking up speed. Suddenly for a reason I still don’t know I opened my eyes. I looked over Six Flags, you could see everything from the stop of the Demon.
And like that my fear slowly but surely slipped away. I raised my hands above my head and let out a scream. But for the first time it wasn’t out of fear. It was out of excitement.
