For my Genius Hour project for round 3 I studied Japanese and I studied a different theme of words like the days of the week or different fruits (as I showed in my last post). Why I chose this was because I'm always fascinated with the language and the culture.
My steps for this project were:
Step 1. I studied Japanese and learned how identify it by certain sounds and how to spell it
Step 2. I took different topics each week and learned how to say them and spell them
Step 3. I took a Japanese folk tale and translated it into English so I could read it and then I learned how to read it in Japanese
Step 4. I shared what I did with the people who I sat with in class today
I actually didn't seek any help from anyone except for my dad who loves Japan as much as me. He helped me with watching their cultures shows (anime).
I shared with the world by blogging about it today and as I posted early I had a short folk tale from ancient Japan. My end product was a story in Japanese.
The successes were first studying Japanese. Every week I would have a different topic like sports or fruit or days of the week.
Some of the problems I faced were when I first tried to do my end product by video taping myself but I didn't have a quiet environment so I couldn't video tape myself. What I learned from this was that I should have a quiet environment every time I video tape.
What I would do differently would be doing more subjects and topics than 5 things I should do about 10.
What I am thinking about doing for my last round of Genius Hour is Photography and I am going to be taking pictures of the transitions between winter to spring.
