Genius Hour is 1 hour every Friday where students in 6th grade do what inspires them. My project is photography. This is my first post and I am excited about sharing my journey with you guys.
My first step for my Genius Hour was research. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where I was going to take the photos, who was going to help me, and tips and tricks on taking photos. ( proper lighting, focal point, choosing the right camera, ect.) My next step was to find the best website. My friends ended up finding this great website called Befunky! (https://www.befunky.com/) Befunky lets you add special affects and make your photos unique. My last step was to add all my photos onto Google Slides. There was also an option to go on Artsonia (https://www.artsonia.com) and sell my photos but, I’m not sure we are gonna use that source.
I am currently still working on the slides but they will be posted soon. I had help from one of my teachers (Mrs.Sayre). She showed me pictures from Instagram and we talked about how they used different lighting, and about what made each photo unique. We also went to a photo gallery in downtown Downers Grove. They had really nice pictures and some of the pictures inspired me to work harder and keep going.
Some problems I faced was that I ended up getting a big knot in my stomach. I was nervous about what people would think about my photos. If I were to continue photography for the second round of genius hour, I would change where I take my photos because for the first round I really focused on the outdoors. Next round I will focus on the indoors. If I don’t continue with photography for my next project, I will probably make YouTube videos on making things that are cheap. I am excited to keep posting and I will stay in touch.
Doing Genius Hour was such an amazing experience!
