The Woods
We sprinted out of the door before my mom could finish the word yes.”THANK YOU!” we both yelled as we ran through the baseball field behind my house, stomping on the sand with each stride. There was no opening on the other side of the fence, so we had to jump it. My cousin was doing a great job keeping up with me. We landed on the other side of the fence, both of us breathing hard. The creek was right in front of us, the rushing water making a great noise.
First I slid down the steep hill, planting my feet on the ground. My cousin followed me, sliding down the same path, but when she landed she lost her balance, and would of plummeted into the creek if it weren't for a rock that she could catch herself on. I walked onto a rock and I had to jump to each one after that to get to the other side. My cousin, still dazed at her fall, followed me as she asked,”why are you carrying that bag?” I looked behind my shoulder at my backpack barely noticing the extra weight slung over my back.”Oh, just a first aid kit, some water, and sandwiches”.”Cool”. She replied.
She made it to the other side, and we just started wandering around, aimlessly. We came upon two really big rocks. We both had the same idea, as we jumped onto the rocks and sat on them. Both of our stomachs growled in unison, like a chorus. We laughed and I dug through my bag pulling out two sandwiches. I threw the sandwich and a water bottle to her, and we both ate happily. When we finished I took all the garbage and stuffed it in my backpack. We slid down from the rocks and started to head home. We stopped at the creek and skipped some rocks.Splish! Plop Plop! The same noises with every chuck of each rock. We walked across the rocks and came to the steep hill. It was like trying to scale a cliff. I held on to a root and started climbing, grabbing a trunk, than a branch, and before I knew it I was at the top. My cousin did the same and slipped but she held on to a tree trunk and put her hands on the ledge. I helped her up and we walked back to my house. When we walked through the door we plopped down on the couch and daydreamed about when we could go again.
