Huskies: By Alex Hoffman
Crunch, squish, crunch, squish went our boots as we walked on the icy snow shattering ice and squishing snow as we walked around The Morton Arboretum. I was super excited to see the huskies that they were bringing out that day to race and also to play with and pet. My friends and one of their mom’s, one of my friend’s walking in front of me with his mom then another of my friend’s walking beside me. We were walking on a sidewalk like path with neatly placed stones and snow filling each crack. One of my friend’s had invited me to see the huskies at The Morton Arboretum in which they were gonna do a sled race and we could go and play and or pet them because they were walking around with trainers everywhere! We hadn’t seen anyone with huskies yet but I was betting we were gonna see one soon. We were walking and talking here and there but I could tell we were barely capable of keeping our excitement in.
“So how far till we get to the Huskies?”
Asked one of my friend’s to his mom looking as if he was gonna explode if he didn’t see a husky soon. Then his mom replied to him
“Don’t worry we’ll be there soon.” As she turned her head back up to where she was walking and all of the sudden we could start hearing barks and laughter from around the corner as we walked up to it and turned it to a bridge like hallway above our heads.
A bit far ahead of us laying in the snow was a Husky looking as if he was the cutest husky ever as he turned and looked at us with his beautiful white and sky blue eyes. I widened my eyes and smiled taking a large step towards my friend’s mom and asked
“Can we go play with him!?” I asked, a smile across my face doing small jumps out of excitement as my other two friends came up behind me looking up to my friend’s mom as well as they both said
“Yeah can we? Please!” As they both looked up at her wanting to play with the Husky as much as I did. She looked at us maybe a bit annoyed but also sincere because she knew how much we wanted to play with the Huskies.
“Yeah I guess, let me go ask.” She said as she walked over to the Husky and his trainer as me and my Friend’s all said in unison
“Yes!” As we all smiled and quickly followed one of my friend’s mom. All of us smiling and happy.
My friend’s mom got up to to the trainer and asked softly and politely
“May we play with the Husky? Or is that off limits?” She asked, looking at the trainer as the trainer replied enthusiastically and happy
“Yes! You can play with them as much as you’d like and they’re are up for adoption!” She said as she looked over to us a bit behind one of my friend’s mom and said
“Come play with them, they have been waiting all day!” She said smiling as the Husky stood up. We all smiled and ran to the Husky, the Husky had ran to us as well as we came together and knelt down hugging the Husky and him giving us licks. We were all having the time of our lives with the Husky as we played together and the Husky, tired would occasionally sit down but still happy as he still wagged his tail and as his tail would gently, but with small force hit the ground as little particles of snow would fly up around him. Even my friend’s mom had some time to play with him and we could tell she was very happy as well. When I out of my other two friends got a turn to sit down and hug the Husky or to play with him I was so happy to get to play with and hug the dog of my dreams. After a few minutes or so my friend’s mom came up to us and sadly ended the greatness of that time by saying
“Hey guys, its time to go see the sled race. We gotta go soon or we’ll miss it.” she said looking almost as if she felt bad for us, but at the same time we knew we had enough time with the Husky so we hugged him and said our goodbyes and as we walked away with the snow squishing and ice cracking beneath our boots I thought to myself ‘I just got to see the dog of my dreams…. thats awesome!’ as I took my last glance at the husky, him laying back down waiting for his next visitor, me going to see a sled race and very happy.
